Centenary Athletics has hired a well-known Louisiana sports name in a top position.
Patrick Meehan, a native of Shreveport, joined Centenary Athletics as assistant athletic director for strategic communications today August 5, 2019.
The new assistant athletic director will support and promote Centenary’s 15 current men’s and women’s athletic teams as well as assist with the launch of three new sports in the 2020-2021 academic year: men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s track and field, and competitive cheer and dance.“In Patrick we’ve identified a professional who will strategically blend public relations, highlighting student-athletes and coaches across various digital platforms, and connecting with the campus and Shreveport-Bossier communities,” says Marcus Manning, director of athletic and recreation at Centenary. “We are excited to welcome Patrick to the Centenary Team.”
Meehan began his career in sports information at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he was a four-year student assistant with the LSU Sports Information Department and had the opportunity to work at major athletic events, including numerous NCAA baseball regionals and super regionals, the 2002 NCAA Division I Track and Field Outdoor National Championship, and two SEC men’s basketball tournaments.
Meehan served as the primary contact for women’s soccer, men’s golf, and men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and was the secondary contact for baseball.
After graduating from LSU, Meehan spent a year as a media relations assistant at the University of Alabama at Birmingham before returning home to Shreveport to work for the Independence Bowl Foundation as a media relations assistant and then media relations/PR director for six years.
Meehan comes to Centenary from his high school alma mater, Loyola College Prep, where he has worked in alumni relations since 2016.
“It is a dream come true to be able to return to my roots in sports information while leading a larger effort to promote Centenary athletics in the Shreveport-Bossier City community,” says Meehan. “I am honored and excited to work at a place with the rich history and tradition of Centenary and am grateful to athletic director Marcus Manning and to Dr. Holoman for the opportunity.”
